Why I love what I do

With Valentines Day approaching, I wanted to take a different approach. I mean, I love my husband very much - don't get me wrong!! But this year, I wanted to talk about another love in my life - my business, my clients and the work I am doing with Thrive.

Owning a business, and working with people who value what I do, is wonderful. It's stressful, sure, but I really love what I'm doing.

I was in a group session with my virtual tribe the other week, and part of the discussion made me suddenly stop and think - why do I love what I'm doing? Where does that passion come from? And am I using it in the best way possible for me, my family and my future? So here are my thoughts on that.

What's my why?

So this is the core of Thrive. What is the reason Thrive exists (look at me, getting all Simon Sinek over here)? Without boring you with a cardboard cutout mission statement, here are a couple of the reasons that I started Thrive:
  1. I wanted to be able to do the things I loved about my roles as an Executive Assistant / Administrator, and focus on doing them really well.
  2. I ❤️ documents. Writing, formatting, playing with tables, figuring out how to make it do what I want, and pulling it all together in a way that looks polished and neat. It's my superpower, and I wanted to be able to shout from the rooftops that I'm a #wordnerd who loves documents!
  3. EVERY business deserves to have excellent documents. Not just big corporations, or specialists. Everyone. And as a one-woman show, without all those pricey overheads, I can help people who appreciate my skills to help them look better for their own clients.
  4. I don't want to hoard all of the knowledge I've gathered over my career. I want to share it, and help other VAs, business owners, team admins and professionals to be able to do these things themselves (if they want to!). It's really important to me that I let people know that just because I love this, and am good at it, doesn't mean I don't want others to be able to do it for themselves too.

How I'm loving on Thrive

Thrive exists because I wanted to do what I love. But now, I have to love Thrive itself, to make it work.

I've spent the last year working out who I want to work with, how I want to work, what I want to achieve from both a personal and professional perspective, and it's not always been a rosy relationship. In fact, as most people who run a business will tell you, there have been times where I have questioned everything.
But I always come back to my why.
And now? I am truly loving where Thrive is. I'm working with some brilliant clients, who each push me in different ways to be better at what I do. To find better ways to help them. And I care.
I care about my clients, and the work I do for them, as if they were a part of my own business.
Because they are.
Every client makes me fall in love with Thrive all over again. They remind me of my why, they push me to be better at something I love doing, and they are the reason I get to do what I love - every day.

So I'm loving on Thrive, because when I invest in my business, I invest in myself. I celebrate the wins, I take time to think about the challenges, I interact with incredible people, and I keep learning better ways to do what I love.

Who / What are you loving on this Valentine's Day?

This year, I'm very aware of how lucky I am to have the people I love in my world. And their support of me and my business reminds me that they are my people. They have my back, and they are my cheer squad, each in their own special way. Without going into it too much, over the last few years I've lost some of 'my people', and it makes you very aware of who is in your circle, and what they each contribute to your world.

I'm very loved. I'm an 'all-in' kinda girl. So I want to thank the people who love me, because it's my blog and I can 😉. My husband, Steve, who brings home snacks, does housework, and puts up with me re-watching GBBO whenever I need to (so, like, all the time!). My mum, who always knows when I need a call (or a hug). The kids (both human and doggo), who make me laugh, and have taught me the peace that comes with choosing your battles. And finally, my online tribe, formed across a range of groups on the book of faces and Insta, who both inspire me and cheer me on every.single.day.

Who or what are you loving on this Valentine's Day? Are you doing something special for yourself (we all need some self-care love - but regularly, not just once a year!), or do you have plans with someone in your world? I'd love to know - you can comment below, or drop me a message on the socials!
